新作アニメ「シティーハンター」の制作を、アニメ「ジョジョの奇妙な冒険」などを手掛けたことで知られるアニメーション・CG制作会社「神風動画」が担当することが7月18日、明らかになった。同日、連載30周年を記念したコミックス新装版「シティーハンター XYZ Edition」（徳間書店）も発売され、公式サイトで、同コミックスのPR動画も公開された。
新作アニメは、作者の北条司さんが描いたマンガの線画が動く「モーション・グラフィック・アニメ」で、コミックス新装版「シティーハンター XYZ Edition」の全12巻購入者特典としてDVDに収録される。キャストは、主人公の冴羽りょう役を神谷明さん、槇村香役を伊倉一恵さん、野上冴子役は麻上洋子さん、海坊主役は玄田哲章さんが担当する。
「シティーハンター」は、「週刊少年ジャンプ」（集英社）で1985～1991年に連載された北条司さんのマンガ。東京・新宿で、ボディーガードや探偵などを請け負う冴羽りょうの活躍を描いたハードボイルドコメディーで、80～90年代にテレビアニメが放送されるなど人気を集めた。現在は、続編の「エンジェル・ハート」シリーズが「月刊コミックゼノン」（徳間書店）で連載されている。

Video announcing new edition of comic “City Hunter XYZ Edition”
It was revealed on July 18th that animation and CG manufacturing company “Kamikazedouga”, which has been known with the production of the anime “JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure”, will manufacture the new anime “City Hunter”.
