After 3 months of dedicated work, I finally finished my first ever animatic project for Twittering Birds Never Fly. It has been a very emotional journey. There were countless of times where I told myself “I can’t do it, I’ve never done it and I have no idea what I am doing, I can’t capture the millions of ways the series makes me feel,” but I did it anyway because of how much I love the series and the song.

I’ve been a fan of Saezuru for 8 years, and as time went on, the series only stood out more and more to me, how beautifully it’s written. Omoinotake’s theme song for the animated movie perfectly captures the unspoken pain that carries throughout. I tried my best to illustrate the imageries the song stirred up in me, and to honor Yoneda Kou’s style.

Drawing in someone else’ style has proven to be very challenging for me, but in a fun way. When I wrapped up the project, I decided to paint the very last frame in my own style as a closure. I think this project will remain one of the best experiences I’ve had in my art journey.

Huge thank you to my community for having my back throughout, and the insane amount of support from the Saezuru fandom. You gave me a ton of confidence and comfort when I was struggling with the project. I’m so so so grateful I got to bond with you through this incredible series and share my journey with you.
