Making a Cosplay For Miku Expo
[Music] uh okay so I don’t have an intro filmed for this video so um we’re just going to improvise uh basically I needed a cosplay for Miku Expo because Miku Expo is coming up in Vancouver and I really wanted to cosplay for it um so I chose this version of Miku which is her little red design from Project Diva um I chose it because it’s really really cute it’s actually one that I’ve wanted to do ever since I first saw it but I didn’t have the resources to do it when I was a teenager um so I decided why not do it now um also big selling point uh no twin Tails just a short blue wig which I thought would be very good for a concert because you know wearing the pigtails would be a lot um so those were the main selling points of this cosplay I had about a week and a half to do it um and so yeah there there we go let let’s get into it so first I started off by cutting out all my pattern pieces this is the pattern I planned to use but I did make a big adjustment which is to put the zipper in the front rather than the back because it looks like her zipper goes in the front so I cut everything out sewed everything together pressed my seams then made a collar so here I am putting the interfacing onto the collar piece zigzag the edges and then sew that to the neck of the bodice then for the sleeves since I was using satin for the cosplay I did that because it was really cheap the actual fabric is a little bit flimsy so I decided to double it up with some scrap fabric that I had that was thicker on the sleeves that the sleeves would have that proper like puff to them uh so I zigzagged them together for all of the different yellow stitching what I did is I took a a whole bunch of ribbon I’ve never bought this much ribbon in my life and cut them into 2in pieces and then singed the ends of each piece so that they wouldn’t Fray this was a very long process then I sewed them all on individually as you can see here this is the band of the sleeve here I am Gathering all of my pieces for the sleeves and then sewing them together add some ribbon on that seam between the sleeve and the sleeve uh Ruffles is that what we’re calling it yeah that’s what we’re going to call it now we’re back to the bodice so down the front I put some ribbon oh and now we’re working on what are we working on here um this video skips around a lot I apologize um I think we’re working on the skirt so here I am working on the skirt uh what am I cutting out here oh yes those are the Ruffles for the skirt so I I cut those out of some white material that I had left over from Merill sewed them all together and then gathered them all and then sew that to the bottom of the skirt uh cut out some more ribbons and then cined those and then added those to the skirt Gathering the skirt here and then what what am I working on here uh oh the the apron okay so I patterned out the apron gosh this video skips around so much oh my goodness bear with me sewed those pieces together and then Tri them all inside out uh iron that and then uh added all the details so here are the little bows that I put on the apron and all the little detail pieces I cut out of felt and then arranged those and sewed them all on individually then on the back H konley has eyelets on the back as the closure so uh I felt like I needed to oblige that part of the design even though no one’s going to see it we’re going to do it anyway so I add some eyelets to the back of the apron and now we’re working on the collar um I would later redo the collar because I made it way too small but here’s a little idea of like how I made it here I am cutting out the hood again since the material was flimsy and I needed it to keep a structure I used a thicker red fabric that I had on hand for the lining just to give it more structure added the yellow stitching sewed everything together turned it inside out and then top stitched it and zigzagged the lining and the outer layer together on the bottom now we’re working on the the wolf oh gosh this skips around way too much okay so so I patterned all of that out um I just made it up as I went along added the details to the face and now we’re working on the front bow okay so I made a giant bow here I am assembling it gosh okay I now now we’re working now we’re working again on the collar so I made it way bigger as you can see cuz I the the first one was way too flipping small so made that much bigger sewed those pieces together flipped them inside out top stitch them and then hand Stitch that to the hood then I made the scallops that go around the side of the collar sew those to the collar then I worked on the backbone added some interfacing to a giant piece of fabric turned that inside out pressed it added the stitching here I making the tails of the bow had to do that on the floor because I had like no space on the sewing table so on the stitching sew everything together turned it inside out pressed it really well then I assembled the bow which was very satisfying in the end it was it was um a long process but it was very satisfying in the end added some Hooks and eyes to the back so I could just hang from the back of the cosplay now we’re returning to the wolf so I sewed everything together turned inside out here I have the ears actually sewn directly to the Head um they’re just turned downwards so that when you turn it inside out they’ll pop up and then I have the body piece I have the arms and then I stuffed all of those and then just assembled them by hand stitching them and now we’re doing the socks uh you know the socks were a mess honestly so I’m not going to focus too much on them cut some holes for the ribbon and then added the ribbon sewed it into place add some bows then I took this pair of shoes that I found that were that was perfect uh removed the bow from them and then added bows on there then so that I could wear the wolf I sew two elastic bands to the bottom and then put this really big headband through it but then what happened was um the back of it ended up being too bulky so it would make a really weird shape under the hood so I just had to amputate its butt um so I sewed that and then I have a piece of Velcro on there that attaches to the hood so that the hood stays down on the um wolf okay that’s it for the cosplay that was a lot I apologize that was um so much skipping around but hopefully that made sense anyway we went to Miku Expo I saw a bunch of my friends had a great old time I ended up only getting two photos of this cosplay so here’s photo number one here’s photo number two and that’s all I have for the actual cosplay I apologize I have not gotten to shoot it properly um but anyway here’s my wrapup thoughts okay okay wrap up thoughts for this cosplay how am I feeling about it okay there’s a lot of mistakes on it I will say that there’s a lot of mistakes on it uh that I certainly noticed nobody else at Miku Expo noticed I everyone was very sweet at Miku Expo they really liked my cosplay which I really appreciate um but you know people told me that oh wow it looks so clean and I was like it’s not if you look really closely but that’s just me being critical I think overall I think given my timeline for making this cosplay I think it was a success during Miku Expo the big thing that happened was I did lose my bow on public transit so I was taking the bus and I switched buses and I’m sitting down and I go to like feel for the bow and I noticed that’s not there it had fallen off on the previous bus uh how did that happened I don’t know I had it like attached with hooks and eyes I guess that just you know snaps probably would have been better so um just you know just a note for the future I guess that was not ideal and I was really stressed about it I did submit a lost prop form um with the bus company and like a week later they get in touch with me and they found the bow so the bow has been secured apparently they weren’t initially going to accept it but then they decide to in the end which I’m really grateful for um so shout out to TransLink thank you TransLink much appreciated TransLink for doing that the only thing I’m super not happy with aside from kind of like the the the tiny little mistakes on it um is the wolf head um and I knew this was going to happen happen but it’s very front heavy um so I have to constantly be like pulling it back and readjusting it which you know for a photo shoot is not the end of the world but for a convention you know it it should be back weighted as well so I’m trying to figure out ways of like making it a little bit more balanced the other thing that wasn’t good were the socks the socks I completely mismeasured and so the ribbons are a little bit too too big for my legs um which is an easy thing to fix it’s better that than the opposite way around so um that’s fine but overall I think for a Miku Expo cosplay you know it did what it needed to do I got to wear it to the Expo people were excited which was amazing um and I got to feel cute I feel very cute in this cosplay M Expo also I will say I know there’s a lot of controversy about M Expo people are probably going to be talking about that in the comments yeah I mean I had a good time my big complaint actually from M Expo was that I didn’t know a lot the songs but I think that’s on me I’m just I’m an old school Vocaloid fan so all the ones I know are from like the late 2000s early 2010s and that’s kind of that’s kind of it but I will admit that I did almost burst into tears when Miku first came on stage like I got surprisingly very emotional I didn’t think I was it was going to hit me that much and then it absolutely did um so overall um am I happy that I did it yes am I happy that it was a TV screen instead of a hologram uh no uh do I wish that we all could have gotten light sticks yes yes so yeah definitely I think some of the the criticisms are valid but that’s not what this video is about this video is about the cosplay so let’s talk about the cosplay let’s focus on that um yeah I think it was a success um I am excited to wear this cosplay more and I did redeem myself after my terrible Miku day cosplay I was able to redeem myself and make something that I was actually happy with so now I do have a version of meiku that I can wear and be proud of um so that’s really great so yeah anyway I think that pretty much sums it up thanks so much for watching I hope you enjoyed it I’ll see you guys all the next one but until then had to faces please be sure to take care bye [Music]
