WINTER CAMPING in SNOW and ICE RAIN
[Music] oh [Music] no he everybody welcome back to the channel I’m on the side of a mountain in the deep snow hiking up to camp on the summit it’s freezing cold I’ve been walking for about 3 hours and it’s been a long hard walk up through the forest along the ridge but it’s beautiful day so far but I think some bad weather’s coming in tonight but I’m almost at the top I need to get up there quick get warm clothes on get the tent set up and hun it down there’s just massive drifts of snow up here and the Going’s quite tough it’s slow and taking a lot of energy but I’m almost at the top guys we’ll be there soon we’ll get the tens top anyway I’ll come back to you at the summit but thanks for tuning in should be a good video top of the mountain it’s stunning up here whoa it’s deep okay I’m going to try flatting off a sight here and get the tent up and try like bury it into the snow I brought some extra big pigs for the corners and I got some proper snow pigs for the guidelines but I kind of have to like put them down and jam it in sideways to get it to sit in there this tent the N Moone has a funny little little front pole here which pulls the whole inner out I quite like it it heaps of head room but it looks kind of strange it’s also got these clips to like secure it and add rigidity to the whole structure of the tint this orange tent fly looks so good with snow and mountains what a nice situp something new for the STP I brought up four massive snow pigs these are the ones that Helberg s check these out so I’ll put these on the exterior guidelines and hopefully they won’t blow away in the night [Music] time w oh holy crap it’s like a snow to all right I’ve got the tent all got out perfectly pitched and it looks absolutely amazing up here some clouds have started to roll in and kind of obscuring the sun it’s just stunning up here it’s hard to describe like the atmosphere but I got to get the rest of the stuff into the tent and get a hot drink on so I’ll do that and I’ll come back to you once I’ve done that check this out this is probably one of the biggest sleeping bags you’ve probably ever seen on a camping video I’ll get that out and talk about it later but this is a base oh man it’s good to get off the snow oh my goodness 1.2 kilos of 850 full power down I’ll put up on the screen what that is in pounds but this thing is absolutely immense [Music] okay I’m going to get a cup of coffee on and have some hob knobs oh wait no I have digestives try to warm myself up a bit clouds rolled in it’s just freezing up here my water’s struggling to boil and there’s like the last bit of light coming down over the mountain so that’s the situation right now this water yeah oh it’s so [Music] cold here’s everybody hot liquid man it goes down [Music] good I need this it’s a delight every time what a place you’re not on a spot like this every day oh the air temperature man it is so cold up here it hurts just to have my fingers exposed the light’s completely gone almost I’m like on the edge of a cliff out this way it’s just a massive Cliff okay but I’m going to get back into the tent um and warm up might get into the sleeping bag for a bit before I do dinner can anyone guess in the comments what’s for dinner what would such a special occasion warrant got on into my bag for a little bit just to warm up I’ve still got the tent door open the air is kind of dry coming in but yeah I’m just going to sit in here warm up for a bit then I think I’ll get dinner on it’s just kind of magical being up here though knowing I’m just on the edge of the cliff and the’re freezing cold but super cozy and warm unfathomable amount of down [Music] [Music] if you guessed hot dogs then you were correct six big wieners and they will all be devoured oh there’s some beautiful Aromas filling the tent I opened up the door because it was getting a bit steamy [Music] I brought my titanium pan this time it’s about 200 g lighter same diameter I won’t dissipate the heat as good over the whole surface but I also brought the Primus gravity 2 stove which has a much wider burning radius on the burner [Music] [Music] perfectly cooked wieners with love and care D and ketchup and fine French’s mustard I mean the Alpine wiener look at that little tip on it the key to this is not get Source on my sleeping bag oh man honestly that is so so delicious it’s perfect I’m happy I brought up six cuz I’m going to need them oh it’s the perfect combination the zingy mustard kind of sour the sweet ketchup the Smoky dog and the fluffy apart the bun cuz you don’t want to split it they can split the backside if you pull them apart too fast so gentle you delicately Place press it in close the gate all right delicate straighten out the beans lather them up generously you want the kind of additional moisture from the source to complement the entire flavor experience at least I do anyway generous with the mustard we want every bite to have that sweet sour mustardy Tang here we go four five and six this is not gluttony by the way this is just replacing the calories that I lost when I walked up the mountain to get here oh I’ll bring all the nice comments that you leave I read them all but there’s just way too many to reply to there’s like hundreds and hundreds and hundreds probably thousands a week so I just can’t sit there all back you afterwards [Music] [Music] [Music] M can’t spend too long out here there’s a little bit of snow falling like little flakes uh the windshields probably like -10 C it’s so cold my hands are going numb I collect a bit of snow for some water and I think get back into the tent but yeah I’m not sure if it’s going to snow more you can kind of I’m not sure if you can see these flakes falling down or not yeah there’s some snow falling hopefully I wake up in the morning and the tent covered in snow that would be nice oh man yeah it’s coming in get the hood on woohoo [Music] some snow for coffee in the morning let’s get back in the tent well I’m back in the tent and I’m just way too full to have a hot chocolate those hot dogs you know they had the spot and some but you can hear that rain coming down it’s kind of scary cuz the pigs are held in by the snow and the snow’s like not super hard if you know what I mean but it should be okay I hope if not I’ll probably just get blond off the mountain and you’ll never see this video but the tent’s moving around a bit it’s kind of freaking me out but I only to go to bed hopefully these winds die down I’ll give you the full rundown of my sleep system and everything tomorrow morning but I think it’s going to be pretty epic night sleep but yeah I’ll see you guys in the morning good night everybody it’s about 1:00 a.m. and I think it’s snowing outside something things happening outside there must be snow back to sleep good morning I’m inside the great big carrot bag and I have awoken it’s about 5:30 a.m. and it’s properly cold now think there’s a bit of a bit of an ice storm going on outside you can see this bag’s got an armhole it’s a pretty cool feature but yeah I zip that up I had some of the vents open last night just to help you know keep the condensation down or close it my bag’s completely dry and the inside of the tent it’s pretty much dry so that’s good but it’s time we a fcking man I need it so so bad it’s icing up on the inside it’s all Frozen going to have the dirty double MCAS oh man the smells good a big old filthy makona cheers everybody to surviving the Night On The Mountain o look at the sleeping bag I’m not sure how much you can see in the shot but I’ve pulled it up I’m like sitting in the hood there’s just so much goose down in it that it’s like a just a big blanket there’s something to be said about a nice big sleeping bag they provide a level of comfort and like coziness that a quilt just can’t really do this one the Big Agnes c bar you know it’s quite the exceptional piece of gear it is pretty specialized just for how warm it is but I mean that’s what you want when you’re up here like I could take something smaller and probably freeze but I want to be comfortable this particular one you can get from the gear shop so if you live in New Zealand or I think Australia they ship to there you can purchase this bag I’ll put a link in the description of the video so you can check it out but like I said before 1 2 kilos of 850 F goose down and it’s just wide in the shoulder so it fits me good and it’s just an excellent piece of gear so I’ll probably use it in more winter trips this year just cuz I love the coziness of it and the insured warmth makona heft oh man I I see [Music] everything oh [Music] no wow this is the Frozen Wasteland it’s actually very beautiful up here the summit of the mountains just there and I’m just camping on the lip of the cliff the snow’s like I up so I can almost walk on it but isn’t this just [Music] stunning it’s amazing up here my eyes are watering don’t know what the wind chill is but it’s severe it’s worth it to be up here though absolutely stunning it’s incredible far out it’s like frozen chunks of snow packing this Down’s going to be a [Music] nightmare as soon as you’re out of the windchill it’s so much warmer it’s like an order of magnitude colder and more severe when the wind is blowing on you as well as that cold Ambient Air Temperature it’s obviously below freezing cuz I mean everything’s just covered in ice look at that so snow fell last night just Frozen fly but yeah back in here it’s quite cozy and warm relative to outside [Music] [Music] [Music] the sky is [Music] red oh man that’s good what a morning this is what it’s all about the Epic Sunrise Coffee good gear cozy getting out for the experience we did it again hope you guys are enjoying this one look at the tin it’s got a nice coating of icing sugar it did a fantastic job it’s a great little tent the Neo just look at this though look at the Sunrise oh it’s incredible [Music] [Music] well I suppose it’s time to pack up not that I really want to but it’s cold up here and hanging around [Music] hurts so I’ll slowly do that pack down which is going to be brutal AES and then yeah I’ll film some of the walk out cuz it’s going to be awesome [Music] [Music] I have a new item for this trip these things they’re called yak tracks I think they are they’re not a crampon or spikes but they’re just like these little rubber things that you can put over your boots that should give me quite a bit of extra grip when I’m going down the gear shop stock there so I’ll be testing them out in The Descent oh no [Music] [Music] all right I’m going to put the big camera away pack everything up get the pack on and begin The Descent all right I’ll show you what I’m dealing with look at us down here around there and all the way down I can already tell that these these little things that I have on my feet they help a lot got way more grip look at this there’s big holes this is a Limestone Crest so over hundreds of thousands of years water has coming in made big tunnels there’s massive tunnel systems under these mountains so you got to be careful not to fall in the pits but look at this man incredible well I’m going to carry on down I’m getting hot I’ll get off the snow stuff then I take the down jacket off but I’ll catch up with you guys once I’m back on the Ridge and Say Goodbye well we did it we camped on the summit it was freezing cold we went to the top of the mountain brought the big sleeping bag indulged in the hot dogs and just had an overall great experience pretty awesome Epic walk up here in the snow on the mountains but yeah I got about another 1 and 1 half hours back down to the car but I think I’ll sign out here thanks everyone for
