Seven Cities Story: Arctic Front

七都市物語 ~北極海戦線~

Let’s take a trip on futurama lane to the year 2000 and 86.
There are a couple million people inhabiting the moon who are survivors of a unforeseen tragedy that,
on account of a change in the earth’s geography.
10 billion people..
which is more than what we got now, but 10 billion people lost their lives over the course of 3 years to a tilt in the earth’s axis to the 90th degree.
This shift has caused all sorts of natural disasters such as

The event has been recorded in history as “The Great Fail”
Yeah this was 2086, but the story of our anime picks up in 2190.
In these times, the Earth is in attempts to be repopulated..
and there are seven cities that have been targeted to begin the process. Of course access to the most crucial elements of humanities needs and survival were the deciding factors for which cities would be chosen.
But you can only imagine..
when it comes to human beings and resources..
Even when it’s in the name of humanity and survival..
the irrational and evil mentality of scarcity,
Is sure to take over.
Damn that’s some good writing.
Nah but on a serious note Somewhere back in 2088 tho, was the formation of a political Structure called the Panhuman World Government, and it was this order that took liberties and supervision over the return to Earth project.

As soon as you turn this on, you could automatically feel the potential lore just brewing to this story.
I feel it had potential to go much deeper and woulda been done more justice as TV series, up to who knows maybe 50 episode to flesh the thing out.
The first couple minutes will explain to you everything I just explained but expand on even more things like I remember at one point between the backstory and the events of the anime the Lunar society had actually been taken out by a virus and or meteor, and other little things are put in there to establish the world history for the viewer.

Basically put, this is about an hour of war and politics between the cities, and this causes it to be quite a confusing watch.. but something about it still keeps you drawn and attracted.
There’s just as much alliances going on as there is warfare.. so it does cause the story to feel somewhat balanced than just fight fight bicker bicker, and another thing that added balance was the the fact that they wrote in some scenes that gave you a little insight to the personal lives of our characters.
Like even tho this is in some sense post post apocalyptic..
They still have houses and cars and what not.
Not living in bunkers and doom and gloom like the premise would presume.

The art and animation is probably the number one reason to watch it, especially since it’s only a hour..
because it’s very attractive.
There are a plethora of scenes here for me to choose from for this video, the war ships, the buildings, background art, and so many aspects of what you’re looking at command appreciation.
The different cities,
Just like in our world carry their own culture..
So you’ll notice a difference in architecture depending which nation the show is depicting, and the weaponry varies between them all too.
This adds to the aesthetics aswell.

If you think back in some of the more mature and sophisticated anime you seen and what their soundtracks sound like, for example the opening for gundam stardust memory and a lot of that 80s stealthy mission type music that you may even here in American live action stuff back then..
You’ll get the music we hear in this.
ambient synthrock is what I saw someone call it in their MAL review so..if you know what that is cause I don’t really bump synth rock..
Or any rock..
there you go.

Based on a series of 5 novels which have a manga adaptation in which this ova covers the first volume.

Listen, idk what you expect from a naval base military anime with a dozen characters and a deep backstory to it’s world..
In only a hour.
So just go peep it and enjoy it for what it is.

Like the video..
