The music of Alien Isolation has always resonated with me.
The composers (Christian Henson, Joe Henson and Alexis Smith) manage to build on Jerry Goldsmith’s themes from the 1979 Alien movie while introducing original compositions that perfectly capture the eerie, haunting quality that fits into the franchise comfortably.
It’s easy to miss just how brilliant the music is when you’re being chased by utter terror which is why I decided to hand pick some of my favourite soundtracks from the game.
The creature is on the loose roaming the ship similar to my previous “Alien Nostromo Ambience” upload but with the added dimension of music playing throughout the 3-hour experience.
📝 Side note:
I found the Android themes suitably take inspiration from Brad Fiedel’s Terminator score.
Again the composers manage to do this in a way that maintains the feel of the Alien universe.
There’s something special about the era in which these movies were made, and for me, Alien: Isolation did a fantastic job of recapturing the magic that the sequels and prequels overlooked. Honestly, I think a big part of that magic isn’t just created by the artists, actors, writers, directors, and the teams behind the cameras. A significant portion of it falls on the shoulders of the small group of composers, and sound designers who “bridge the gap,” subconsciously immersing the audience and bringing to life the worlds portrayed on screen.
Some of the soundtracks in this upload have been edited removing aspects that I thought broke the flow of the ambience.
