Solo Leveling Season 2, Episode 1: You Aren’t E-Rank, Are You?
Jinwoo starts the episode resting when his sister, Jinah, reminds him about her parent-teacher meeting. At the meeting, Jinah’s teacher praises her, and Jinwoo firmly states he wouldn’t allow her to become a hunter if she ever awakened.
Later, Jinwoo meets Song-Yi, an E-Rank hunter he and Jinho recruited. She learns he is Jinah’s brother but insists on continuing as a hunter. Jinwoo respects her decision and takes her to a dungeon gate, where they meet Ahn and Hyun, who introduce them to A-Rank hunter Kim Chul. Their mission is to observe Chul’s group in action.
Once inside, the gate turns red, trapping them in a frozen dungeon. Jinwoo explains that Red Gates sever contact with the outside world and require the dungeon boss to be defeated to escape. Suddenly, Ice Elves attack, killing two hunters. Chul orders the group to split, taking only C-Rank hunters and above with him. Park Heejin, a high-rank hunter, stays with Jinwoo’s group and quickly suspects he’s not really E-Rank after he saves Song-Yi from a fast projectile.
As Chul’s group moves forward, they find Ice Bear tracks. Underestimating the danger, they soon get attacked by Ice Bears. Meanwhile, Jinwoo provides coats for his team from his inventory, setting a clear rule—no demands or questions. When an Ice Bear approaches, Baek, outside the gate, realizes he can’t interfere and suggests they hold out hope. Dongsoo arrives, declaring he wants to meet Jinwoo.
Jinwoo swiftly defeats numerous Ice Bears before raiding their lairs and summoning his shadow army, including Igris, to fight them. However, the Ice Bear boss proves too powerful, overwhelming the army. Jinwoo orders Igris to take it down, and Igris succeeds. Meanwhile, Chul’s group struggles against Ice Slayers, with many begging for help. Instead of assisting, Chul flees, leaving his last ally to die. The episode ends ominously with an Ice Slayer grinning.
Episode Review
Solo Leveling returns with intense action, showcasing Jinwoo’s Shadow Monarch powers. The episode draws a strong contrast between Jinwoo and Chul—Jinwoo cares for his allies, while Chul selfishly abandons his team.
Dongsoo’s reappearance sets up an upcoming conflict with Jinwoo, adding another layer of tension. Meanwhile, hints about Choi’s reconnaissance at Jeju Island suggest future revelations.
Overall, a solid start to Season 2, with thrilling battles and crisp animation. Jinwoo’s evolution as a leader and fighter keeps the momentum going strong!
