Tips for Surviving Comic-Con as a Cosplayer – Featuring Alyson Tabbitha

[Music] What’s up everybody? I’m Allison Tabitha. I’m a cosplayer and content creator. And if you missed my last video, I showed you what it takes to build your own Zelda cosplay from conception to completion. And if you want to learn how to build a cosplay of your very own, or if you’re just curious how I made this, then go check that out. But enough talking. Let’s go inside. Presented by Nitsa. Speeding catches up with you. Nothing’s worse than dashing around the convention floor, scrambling for what you need, and missing out on all the fun, so take your time. Here’s what you need to pack and know before you go, so that you can enjoy your time on the convention floor. Here’s what I like to bring with me in case of a cosplay emergency. A hot glue gun and some extra glue sticks. Some super glue, a needle and thread, some zip ties. They really help in a pinch, and some safety pins. For this costume, I brought more specific supplies. I brought some extra gems and clips in case they fall off and some pliers to attach them. And since my armor’s gold, if it chips, it’s nice to have a gold paint pen with me to touch it up. Setting out everything beforehand is the perfect way to get a leg up on the day. Now you won’t need to burst out into a frenzy if something breaks or falls apart. I know it could be really nerve-wracking going to convention for your first time in cosplay. So, one tip I have is to bring a friend with you. It really helps with the nerves. One of my favorite things about cosplay is how easy it is to connect with other cosplayers and make friends. I’ve met some of my closest friends through this hobby. Oh, look who it is. [Laughter] So, I’m out here giving tips for people who cosplay for their first time. Do you have any tips? Okay. Yes. Uh you’re here. It’s hot. Make sure to stay hydrated. Uh, if you’re wearing a wig especially, you’re going to get dehydrated faster than you think you are. Yeah. Wear comfortable shoes if you can. No one’s looking at your feet. Do you have any tips for first- time cosplayers? The most important thing is pick a costume that you love, that you can get into, that you can role play in because, yeah, you got to be comfortable in that all day long. And it makes it more fun. Absolutely. Makes it more fun. And the, you know, if you build your own costume, it makes it more personal. You can tweak it. You can, you know, mash it up and do all kinds of cool stuff. I love that. Do you have any tips for new cosplayers? Start early. It’s going to take more time than you think. Also, if you’re doing costumes of your own, learn to sew, for sure. Do you have any tips for first time cosplayers? Um, I would say don’t stress too hard on making the perfect cosplay. We all start from somewhere and then plan ahead. I purposely chose this uh costume because it wasn’t too heavy on like long sleeve kind of things. Punchable. That’s a good tip. And it’s summer, too, so it’s it’s hot. Like and if you’re going to convention, say somewhere like outdoors, maybe where it’s like it’s in the winter, maybe pick something with have your clothes. Yeah, always adapt to the weather. Another tip I have is don’t exhaust yourself. Take a break and it’s a perfect chance to do any touch-ups. One tip I have for taking photos is to move around and add movement to your poses. It really helps to swing and sway the elements of your cosplay to get the perfect shot. Well, there you have it, folks. That’s everything you need to know to have the best cosplay experience at ComicCon or any convention you go to. Remember not to rush when you’re here. Take your time driving and give yourself the chance to fully explore and immerse yourself in everything you see. And if you haven’t watched it yet, make sure you go check out my last video where I show you how I made my Zelda cosplay. What’s something you’re excited to do as a cosplayer at a convention? Let me know in the comments below. And for more Comic-Con coverage, keep it locked on IGN.
