Residents in communities along rivers swollen by heavy rain after the recent storms are anxiously eyeing their flood defences tonight.
Two severe flood warnings- indicating a danger to life- remain in place.
One is at Ironbridge in Shropshire, where last night the River Severn came within a few centimetres of breaching flood barriers.
The other is at Bewdley in Worcestershire, a town still waiting for the permanent barriers it was promised two years ago.
