長寿マンガ「ガラスの仮面」の作者・美内すずえさんが23日、松屋銀座（東京都中央区）で開かれた「連載40周年記念 ガラスの仮面展」のオープニングイベントに登場した。
40年の連載について、美内すずえさんは「頭で考えると長いと思うが、昨日のよう。気がついたらそういう年が経っていた。40年の重みがない。だからやり続けていける」と説明。さらに北島マヤのモデルについて、「10歳のころに母に連れられて映画『王将』を見た。三國連太郎さんが演じる主演の坂田三吉で、普段は何もできないダメおっちゃん。そういう映画を見て『人間って何だろう』と思い、のどがからからになった。それが長いこと残っていて、ああいうキャラクターかければいい」と考えて「ガラスの仮面」が作られたことを明かした。
「ガラスの仮面」は、1975年に「花とゆめ」（白泉社）で連載がスタートし、現在は「別冊花とゆめ」（同）で連載中のマンガ。伝説の舞台作品「紅天女」を演じるために、主人公・北島マヤが演技の道を極めようとする姿が描かれている。コミックスの累計発行部数は5000万部以上を誇る。
「ガラスの仮面展」は貴重なモノクロ原稿やカラー原画を中心に、掲載誌や書籍、舞台の資料など400点以上を展示する。原画展オリジナルグッズを販売するほか、カフェ「喫茶月影」も楽しめる。9月4日まで、午前10時～午後8時（最終日は午後5時まで）。入場料は一般1000円、高校生700円、中学生500円、小学生300円。同日のイベントには、女優の吉本実憂さん、今年の「全日本国民的美少女コンテスト」でグランプリを受賞した井本彩花さんも登場した。

I wished that I would be able to draw such a character and Glass Mask was born.
