Kon-Badgy-Gu! Terriermon Assistant here! So, everyone—have you started playing Digimon Story Time Stranger? Are you all enjoying it already? I can practically hear your cheerful voices from here! As you’ve seen in the behind-the-scenes and Central Town exploration videos, this game is packed with an incredible amount of passion and attention to detail from the development team. So if you haven’t played yet—or you’ve got the game sitting unopened—come on, now’s the time to dive in! …But actually, I’m still living in late September, before the release. So I’m a little jealous of all of you. Still, the new trailers are getting me so hyped— I’ll be playing it the moment it launches! Ossu! So! Today, the staff brought me a fun little project to dig even deeper into all those details. It’s called: “Did you notice? Let’s talk about the hidden details in Digimon Story Time Stranger!” Heeey, I bet most of you are too busy playing the game to even be watching this program. Yeah, the staff all have that “fair enough” look on their faces right now. But still, maybe someone out there is seeing this for the first time, so let me reintroduce Digimon Story Time Stranger! This game tells a story that transcends both time and worlds, features a strategic turn-based battle system, and lets you collect and raise over 450 Digimon—the most in the series! No matter how many times I say it, it still gets me hyped! My speech even speeds up when I do! I just want to find all 450 already— I mean, the excitement is real! Anyway, I hope everyone enjoys both Terriermon Assistant’s Lab and Time Stranger! Now, today’s theme isn’t about 3D models or motion—none of that technical stuff. What we’re looking at this time are— the little Easter eggs and homages hidden throughout Time Stranger’s human world and Digital World scenes and backgrounds! And we’ll be introducing some of them… in a quiz format! Wait—again with the quiz!? A quiz… seriou— Why does it have to be a quiz!? Did we really need to make it a quiz!? Well, actually, someone at DIGIMON EXPO did say they wanted more quizzes, so… Alright! Go Terriermon Assistant! Go Terri-suke! You got this! So yes, we’ll be doing this in quiz format! Let’s dive in—today I’ll be watching the clips together with our staff and taking the quiz! (3-Ochi) Thanks for having me! Ah, it’s the usual guy. (3-Ochi) Yep. You were interviewing fans at DIGIMON EXPO, right? I saw you were being sneaky. (3-Ochi) Yeah, some fans were even walking around carrying Terri-suke plushies! (3-Ochi) Their passion was incredible—I made sure not to lose to that energy during the interviews! Did anyone recognize you and ask, “Are you 3-Ochi?” (3-Ochi) …Yes Wait—seriously!? Whoa, you’re becoming famous, 3-Ochi! How’s that feel? (3-Ochi) I’m… still getting used to it. Still getting used to it, huh. You might be asked for autographs soon—just sign it with a “3.” (3-Ochi) Like, literally just a 3? Are you serious? Back to the topic! (The 2 of them just went on and on) (3-Ochi) So, this time we actually talked to the Time Stranger developers in advance (3-Ochi) to hear what kind of secrets and details they put in. Nice! Thanks for that! (3-Ochi) There were so many details that we couldn’t possibly fit them all in one video. (3-Ochi) It really showed how much passion went into this game. That much passion, huh? (3-Ochi) Oh yeah—like, dozens of things! Then let’s show all of them! (3-Ochi) I’d love to! But the video would end up being hours long. That’s fine! Let’s go for a two or three-hour video! (3-Ochi) Unfortunately, the developers couldn’t join us today… Why not!? (3-Ochi) It’s right before release—sorry! Ah, right, they’re still in that worldline! It’s crunch time for the Time Stranger team right now. (3-Ochi) So they couldn’t make it, but they did send us their comments! (3-Ochi) We’ll be using those as the basis for today’s quiz. (3-Ochi) So whether you haven’t played yet or already cleared it, (3-Ochi) I hope you’ll enjoy checking whether you noticed these details yourself! Got it—let’s do this! (3-Ochi) Out of the many details, we’ve selected five to feature today, and as Terri-suke mentioned earlier— (3-Ochi) we’ll be doing them in two-choice quiz format! I’ve already made up my mind—let’s do it! (3-Ochi) A Digimon who’s ready to face anything! That’s right! Just look at this determined face! (3-Ochi) So sharp and serious! Heh, so… is there a prize for me? (3-Ochi) Uh, no reward, actually. No reward!? (3-Ochi) Nope. Then why make it a quiz in the first place!? We could’ve just introduced the details normally! (3-Ochi) Well, we thought it’d be more fun to guess a bit before showing the answers! (3-Ochi) So we decided to go with this format. Okay! (3-Ochi) Yep. Alright, let’s get started! Everyone, try guessing along! (3-Ochi) Here’s our first clip. Okay. (3-Ochi) For our first detail: (3-Ochi) If you have Terriermon or Lopmon in your party and win a battle, something special happens. (3-Ochi) What do you think it is? (3-Ochi) A: They play rock–paper–scissors with their ears. B: They make a finger heart with their ears. This one’s easy. (3-Ochi) Huh? It’s both. They can do rock–paper–scissors AND a finger heart, right? (3-Ochi) I see, um… (3-Ochi) Spiking Strike? No way! Isn’t a quiz supposed to be picking either A or B? But, y’know, that intro bit kinda reminded me of that national anime… with the “ufufufufu” laugh? It felt a bit like that. (3-Ochi) I see. Yeah, I’m going with B. The finger heart, right? Ah, but the dev team… a lot of them might be in their 30s and 40s. What if they don’t even know what a finger heart is? (3-Ochi) Finger hearts might be a generational thing. Okay, switching to A. (3-Ochi) Going with A. They can play rock–paper–scissors. (3-Ochi) They can do rock–paper–scissors with their ears. But if it’s always rock, they’ll always lose! Let’s make it rock–paper–scissors. (3-Ochi) So, A: rock–paper–scissors. Rock–paper–scissors it is. (3-Ochi) You are… (3-Ochi) Correct! Wait, I got it right—what do I even do now? (3-Ochi) Yup! They can actually play rock-paper-scissors. (3-Ochi) Let’s watch the clip. So they are mostly 30s and 40s, huh. Aah—so cute! I can’t even believe it—that cute!? (3-Ochi) Right? It changes every time! (3-Ochi) Exactly. Look—depending on how you see it, the middle kind of looks like a finger heart, doesn’t it? (3-Ochi) True—there are two “fingers.” Right? (3-Ochi) Fair point. (3-Ochi) Anyway—correct! Congratulations! I actually got it—thank you very much. (3-Ochi) Alright, onto the next one—here’s the clip. (3-Ochi) Everyone’s favorite, BigMamemon— (3-Ochi) when it uses its special attack, Big Smiley Bomber, there’s a hidden homage. What is it? (3-Ochi) A: The Mamemon that gets thrown is crying. B: Rarely, a MetalMamemon is what gets thrown instead of Mamemon. Huh… (3-Ochi) Thinking hard, I see. An homage, huh… (3-Ochi) Yeah, I’ll say it outright—it’s an homage. (3-Ochi) Just to explain the move— (3-Ochi) BigMamemon’s Big Smiley Bomber throws a Mamemon, (3-Ochi) basically using it as a bomb— (3-Ochi) hurling Mamemon as part of the attack and—boom! So the “smiley” part contrasted with tears—that irony is the joke, right? (3-Ochi) That could be the gap, yeah. Okay, I’ll go with A. (3-Ochi) Locking in A: the Mamemon that flies is crying. Yep. (3-Ochi) Let’s check the answer—roll the clip. Please. It’s crying! (3-Ochi) It is! (3-Ochi) So that’s correct—congrats! And this is because…? (3-Ochi) Actually, the crying Mamemon in Big Smiley Bomber Uh-huh. (3-Ochi) is an homage to the illustration on BigMamemon’s card from the Digital Monster Card Game. So it’s straight from that! (3-Ochi) Exactly. (3-Ochi) It’s directly referencing the crying pose. (3-Ochi) If you played the Digital Monster Card Game and used BigMamemon (3-Ochi) or just simply stared at that card a lot— (3-Ochi) you might catch it right away. A lot of people might just wonder, “Why is it crying?” (3-Ochi) But yep— for those who know, it’s that moment from back then. (3-Ochi) Exactly. (3-Ochi) So this homage isn’t from a past anime or game—it’s from the Digital Monster Card Game. (3-Ochi) Digimon spans so many works and product lines that these kinds of crossovers are possible, (3-Ochi) letting the team weave in homages to different sources as they build the game. Alright, then I’ve gotta play the full release! Release it now! (3-Ochi) It’s still September, so we can only play the demo. Agony. (3-Ochi) No time for that anyway. (3-Ochi) But congrats on getting it right! Yesss! (3-Ochi) Moving on to the next question— (3-Ochi) this time it’s an image, not a clip. An image? Elecmon? (3-Ochi) Yep—this is a topic that also came up in our video with Nazuna Kaga. (3-Ochi) It’s an homage about everyone’s beloved Elecmon. (3-Ochi) Originally it was a quadruped, but in the Digimon Adventure anime it became bipedal, (3-Ochi) and it’s been bipedal in the games ever since. (3-Ochi) Out of respect for that Elecmon, (3-Ochi) the games have actually kept it bipedal all along. (3-Ochi) Did you know this? They were all practicing hard for sure! (3-Ochi) Lining up with that Elecmon, (3-Ochi) maybe all the other Elecmon out there— were watching Digimon Adventure, huh? Like, “maybe I can stand too,” and then they started practicing. At first they kept toppling over, but maybe they finally learned to stand! Anyway—what’s the question? (3-Ochi) So, how is Elecmon depicted in this game? (3-Ochi) A: It’s back to four-legged walking. B: It’s standing on one leg. What kind of question is that? But from that setup you just gave… (3-Ochi) It’s almost a giveaway, yeah. Four-legged walking. (3-Ochi) Then we’ll go with A: four-legged. So it’s back to “standard” Elecmon. (3-Ochi) Alright, let’s check the answer—here it is. Whoa! (3-Ochi) Correct again—congratulations! Nice! Both versions are cute, though. (3-Ochi) Totally. So it’s back to four legs— (3-Ochi) and apparently Elecmon even plays an important story role this time, (3-Ochi) so they may have chosen to present it a bit differently than before. Ooh, now I’m excited. (3-Ochi) Next question—please take a look at this clip. Okay. Oh, is this the aquatic area? (3-Ochi) That’s right. Hm? (3-Ochi) There it is. (3-Ochi) In part of the underwater map of the Abyss Area, (3-Ochi) there’s a hidden giant Digimon. A giant Digimon? (3-Ochi) Yep—the quiz is: which Digimon is it? Hmm… A: KingWhamon. B: Ebonwumon (3-Ochi) The question kind of gives it away, but this one’s from Digimon Fusion. Right. Once you mention Digimon Fusion… it’s gotta be A, right? (3-Ochi) Sharp! Ebonwumon shows up in lots of titles— what was it again? The Four Sovereigns. Yeah, yeah—Genbu. (3-Ochi) Exactly. That’s the motif. (3-Ochi) And actually, Ebonwumon probably isn’t in Digimon Fusion, (3-Ochi) so once you see Digimon Fusion, it basically points to KingWhamon. Then it’s KingWhamon. (3-Ochi) Alright, let’s take a look. Let’s see it. (3-Ochi) Here you go. Okay. (3-Ochi) That huge island you can see in the distance— look closely underneath and you’ll spot Whamon’s body. Ah—so that makes it KingWhamon. Exactly. Plenty of people would miss this unless they really looked. (3-Ochi) You really have to pay attention. (3-Ochi) When we uploaded our gameplay, we wandered around Shinjuku for like 20–30 minutes, (3-Ochi) just wanting to look around the whole time. Most of that got cut, though— (3-Ochi) yeah, it was super fast-forwarded. (3-Ochi) You have to look that closely— (3-Ochi) and also remember KingWhamon from Digimon Fusion—or you’ll probably miss it. True. As if I didn’t already have raising to do—what a time thief! (3-Ochi) And just like that, we’re already at the final question. Whoa, the last one already? (3-Ochi) Okay, for the last one—there’s this key “eight-year” timeline in this game. (3-Ochi) Aside from the main story—where you go back and forth between past and present—there’s something else you can notice. (3-Ochi) What do you think that is? Why such an abstract question? Isn’t that a bit too vague? (3-Ochi) I knew you’d say that. (3-Ochi) We’ve got an image—here it is. (3-Ochi) …Which tells you nothing by itself. Various changes over eight years? (3-Ochi) Right. A: The protagonists’ looks change subtly between past and present, Mm-hmm. (3-Ochi) or B: certain Digimon—specifically the ones you see out in the field, (3-Ochi) not the ones in your party—have evolved or their relationships have progressed. Evolved—like, they digivolve on their own? (3-Ochi) So, A would mean Dan and Kanan’s appearances—if you look closely— (3-Ochi) are a bit different between eight years ago and now. Like they’ve got a few more wrinkles? (3-Ochi) Or their outfits are slightly tweaked. Maybe the skirt hem got longer? (3-Ochi) Which side would be longer—eight years later? (3-Ochi) For B—think of all the Digimon in Central Town. (3-Ochi) Comparing eight years ago to eight years later—yeah. (3-Ochi) For example, a Gomamon who was in Central Town eight years ago (3-Ochi) might be an Ikkakumon eight years later—those kinds of changes. That sounds cooler, so I’m choosing B. (3-Ochi) With a bit of wishful thinking? Yeah, that gets me more hyped. (3-Ochi) Alright, let’s look at the answer image. (3-Ochi) And that is correct! Guilmon’s evolved! (3-Ochi) Exactly. (3-Ochi) This shot’s from Central Town—see this little spot (3-Ochi) with Monodramon and Guilmon? (3-Ochi) You can probably check it even after clearing the demo in Central Town. (3-Ochi) Eight years earlier you’ll find Monodramon and Guilmon like this— (3-Ochi) and eight years later, they’ve evolved into Cyberdramon (3-Ochi) and WarGrowlmon, respectively. (3-Ochi) And that Monodramon—who’s Cyberdramon eight years later— (3-Ochi) apparently has a storyline of its own, separate from the main plot. Where do you play that? (3-Ochi) You’ll have to find it out on the map yourself. (3-Ochi) And not just Central Town—Digimon across different maps (3-Ochi) are shown eight years earlier and in the present—same individuals, or rather, (3-Ochi) the same Digimon—each with their own little stories to follow all over the place. (3-Ochi) That wraps up the quiz—how was it, Terri-suke? Wait, didn’t I get all of them right? (3-Ochi) You did—congratulations! (3-Ochi) The quiz wasn’t the main point though— we wanted to spotlight the attention to detail. But with this much to look forward to… the only thing left to cut is sleep! What am I supposed to do? (3-Ochi) Maybe do a first and second playthrough with different protagonists— (3-Ochi) then comb through everything on the second run. (3-Ochi) Or just blaze through the story once first. You mentioned the voice changes too, 3-Ochi. (3-Ochi) Right. So first run as Gio Aikawa— then second run as Ai-chan—that works! Yeah, yeah, exactly. (3-Ochi) At DIGIMON EXPO, when we mentioned Gio Aikawa, (3-Ochi) there were folks in the audience nodding like “yep!!” Everyone’s becoming my allies over this past year! (3-Ochi) Exactly! Wonderful. And that’s a wrap— “Did you notice? Let’s spotlight the details in Digimon Story Time Stranger!” Alright—we brought this to you together with 3-Ochi. Honestly, I just want to play Time Stranger already. (3-Ochi) Same here. (3-Ochi) By the time people watch this, they’ll already be playing. Oh, for sure. I’ll probably be three kilos lighter by then—maybe. (3-Ochi) Terri-listeners—get your sleep and eat properly while you play! Or the opposite—I might be snacking in the middle of the night. (3-Ochi) Because you’ll be up all night? Up all night, yep. (3-Ochi) Some of you watching may have already beat the game Yeah. (3-Ochi) And some of you might be playing right now. Whenever your ears—uh, hands—are free for a moment, I hope you’ll put my videos on too! And now, an announcement. Digimon Story Time Stranger is out now on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Steam. If you haven’t bought it yet—or today’s quiz made you want to try it—go grab it now! That’s it from us today. Please subscribe and give us a like! Tell us about any developer details you noticed, or fun things you discovered while exploring—anything’s welcome! Anyway—thanks as always for your posts on X and your comments on the videos! Please keep them coming! So then—yeah, that’s right— I’ll say goodbye with this line today: Big Smiley Bomber! Bye-bye! Everybody, get some sleep— but don’t forget to play!
