漫画家の新谷かおるさんが66歳の誕生日となる4月26日、公式ツイッターアカウントで休筆を宣言しました。
新谷さんはこの日、雑誌「月刊コミックフラッパー」で2006年から連載していた漫画「クリスティ・ロンドンマッシブ」の最終回を脱稿。
「これで漫画家として、一旦筆を置きます。そして今日は66歳の誕生日。一休みしてから新しい事に向かいます。長い間、ありがとうございました」と筆を置くことを明らかにしました。
新谷さんは1972年「りぼん秋の増刊号」に掲載された「吸血鬼はおいや？」でデビュー。
戦闘機などのメカニックと少女漫画のような繊細なタッチ、人物描写を得意とし、戦闘機を描いた「ファントム無頼」「エリア88」、バイクレースを描いた「ふたり鷹」など数々の人気作で知られていました。
