In This Corner Of The World was a Japanese animated short film directed by Sunao Katabuchi. The movie succeeded splendidly in delineating the jarring contrast between the tenderness of the human mind and the excruciating purgatory of war. The cutesy, simplified character design gave free rein to the animated expressiveness of the protagonist, which grated starkly against the gruelling context behind the scene. The dichotomy of those two elements and how they mesh so well together make this, in my opinion, one of the best movies to have come out this year.
When I watched the theatrical release for the first time, I always had this song playing in my head for some inexplicable reason, thus the making of this amv.
I hope that you will give this movie a try, especially if you’re a fan of the morbid “Grave Of The Fireflies”.
