Hope you enjoyed my cover of Rising Hope from Mahouka Koukou no Rettousei (The Irregular at Magic High School)!
I’ve only recently finished the first season of Mahouka. As an anime-only viewer, I’m quite intrigued by the rich backstory and the world setting. Overall it’s a very enjoyable series!
The start of OP theme is very interesting. It starts with a piano introduction using the upper registers and the last phrase of the chorus. After that, we are introduced to the recognizable climbing scale theme (F-Bb-G-C-Bb-Eb-F).
To really emphasize this theme, I’ve decided to play it in octaves with full force; however, to make the transition to the verse (which is much softer), I inserted one more repetition of the theme with a gradual diminuendo.
I’ve also replaced the guitar solo with the main theme, but in 7/8 time (as opposed to 7/4 in the original). It’s very refreshing to hear changes in the meter in pop songs.
