(This series’ soundtrack is probably my favorite out of all the ones I’ve listened to, and I’ve listened to quite a few. It’s a very traditional and orchestral soundtrack, with somewhat less electronic music added into it, which is a rarity these days. It also combines many different atmospheres and moods to create a very well-rounded set of themes. In addition, it often returns to the original title theme throughout to introduce a “themes and variations” format to both soundtrack albums.
What makes this soundtrack special, and allows it to stand out from the vast majority of anime soundtracks nowadays, is how optimistic the music generally sounds. In a world of dark and angry chords, there is a surprisingly hopeful and joyful set of pieces to be heard here, ranging from peaceful, elegant piano to triumphant, heralding trumpets. Of course, it has its darker moments, but they only add to the relief felt when the happier moments arrive. I tried to emphasize this by starting and ending the medley with more cheerful pieces, although this is, of course, merely a matter of personal preference.
Like all the medleys I make, this is good for easy listening if you happen to have fifty minutes to spare. Probably also good homework music, too, if you turn down the volume a little.)
