作品について / Program notes:
曲は大きく「Ａ‐Ｂ‐Ａ'(急‐緩‐急)」の３つの部分からできています。Ａ部分では４分の５拍子、４分の３拍子、４分の４拍子による軽快な曲想が次々に現われ、Ｂ部分(中間部)では、Ａ部分で登場した様々なティーフがスローテンポの中で形を変えながら現われます。再びＡに戻ると(Ａ’部分)、終盤ではGrandiosoによる壮大なフィナーレが奏され、最後は急速な変拍子によってスピーディーに曲が締めくくられます。
各パートとも、ハイトーンや高速音型などのような高い技術が求められる部分は少ないのですが、多パートによる厚いテンションコードの構築やベルトーンなど、高いアンサンブル能力が求められる部分が数多くあります。(高橋伸哉)

Cat’s Eye was commissioned by the ensemble “Brass Cats” for brass octet and premiered by the group in January, 2011 at Shiga State Ensemble Contest.
The title, Cat’s Eye not only came from the commissioners but just like a cat’s eye, its style and tempi change dramatically depending on the scene. The form is A-B-A. It starts lightly with 5/4, 4/3, 4/4 and then beginning motives reappear in slow tempi and varied styles. The finale is an enhanced grandioso in a quick, irregular meter.
